dachshund in the rain

Should you invest in a raincoat for your dachshund?

Picture this.

You were hanging out with your dachshund, and suddenly, it started to rain.

Your dachshund is getting cranky and refuses to walk. You had to pick her up, but she kept moving, trying to cling on to your body. Your newly washed t-shirt is now getting dirty with her paw prints all over. It’s annoying.

Well, that’s exactly what happened to me over the weekend.

---------------------

I was a vendor at the Wiener-Paw-Looza event on Saturday. This is the biggest dachshund event in Toronto, and I was excited to set up my stall, getting ready to greet all the dachshunds.

Then suddenly, it rained.

The light rain turned into a storm within minutes, and it started pouring.

My clothes rack fell, price tags were soaked, and the tent was about to be blown away. It was CHAOTIC!

And there was my dog, Cooper. He hated the rain and begged for me to hold him.

Honestly, I love him, but I can’t afford to hold him while I try to get everything under control. And no way I will let him leave any paw prints on my shirt. I need to wear it for the whole event.

Luckily, I was prepared. I quickly put the raincoat on him, and he quietly lies on the grass while I get on with the damage control.

This incident reassured me how important having a raincoat for your dachshunds is.

Why Should Dachshunds Wear Raincoats?

Yes, things like this don’t happen all the time.

But if you think about the nature of dachshunds in general — they are low to the ground, refused to go out in the rain, and are also a good model by design.

Low to the ground means they are more prone to pick up dirt and grass sticking to their bodies. You know how dirty it is when you pick them up.

A raincoat can protect them from getting dirty and avoid the need for frequent baths.

They are also not particularly fond of rain, so having a raincoat helps to block out the rain as much as possible, keeping them dry and comfortable.

If I didn’t put the raincoat on Cooper, he would cry and try to run away.

And, of course, you can’t ignore the fact that dachshunds look super adorable in clothes. They are born models! A raincoat adds a touch of style to their overall appearance.

Designed with Dachshunds in Mind

Being a dachshund owner, one challenge is to find the right clothing that actually fits.

And if regular clothing is already difficult to find, a raincoat adds another layer of complication.

Most of the cute and stylish raincoats in the market just don’t fit dachshunds.

Sleeves are too long, waistline too wide, length too short, the hood is too big, you name it.

That’s when I decided to make a raincoat. And one that not only fit well but is also versatile.

Here’s what the final design turned out:

  1. Easy to put on: Our raincoat features a velcro opening, eliminating the need to go over the head, making it hassle-free to put on.
  2. Perfect Fit: Designed with a longer back and adjustable straps, ensuring a snug fit for dachshunds’ slimmer backs.
  3. Waterproof Design: Equipped with elastic sleeves to prevent water splashes, the no-sleeve design prevents your dachshunds from stepping on the sleeves and tripping over in the rain.
  4. Carry for the unexpected: You know how annoying it is when you have a raincoat, but you left it at home. Our raincoats can be folded into a pouch and hooked on the dog leash, so you are always prepared for the unexpected.
  5. Cross-style leash hole: We know your dog tends to drag on the clothing so we make the leash hole in a cross-style to give more room for the D ring to move around.
  6. Light-weight material for all seasons: The raincoat is lightweight so your dog can wear it on its own in the summer rain, and wear it on top of their sweaters in the colder months.
  7. Easy to clean: You don’t really need to clean them. Simply use a damp cloth to wipe it clean.

When it doesn’t rain

Our raincoat is packed with so many features, making it good outdoor gear for a long walk in the rainforest, hiking, or even a windy day.

Going on a hike with your dachshund is fun, but you will likely need to wash them after a hike, as they pick up dirt and mud and love rolling on grass.

And when it happens, you will be happy they had a raincoat on.

Investing in a raincoat for your dachshund not only for the fashion but also for the function. Our raincoats are packed with features and make sure your dachshund feels comfortable while staying clean and stylish.

No more staying away from a rainy day. Instead, go for a walk in style so both you and your dachshund can enjoy the magic of a rainy day.
